Lock-y-Waun Cottage was built on an island. The Aberdare
Canal and a bypass weir enclosed it from the west and South,
whilst Locks 16 and 17 of the Glamorganshire canal completed
the encirclement to the East and North. On the left of this
photograph the bypass weir can be identified joining the
larger channel of the Aberdare Canal
